About Us

Growing up in Cornwall, the coast and the seaside was a part of life, one that I never knew would become such an important inspiration in the St Mawes Scent Room. After twenty years in the beauty and fragrance industry, as a therapist with leading beauty brands, including Aveda, Clarins and Decleor, followed by seven years with Jo Malone London, I returned to my beloved Cornwall, settling in the beautiful sailing resort of St Mawes. Some time managing events at Hotel Tresanton followed, and in the property market finding dream homes and holiday retreats, which furthered my understanding of what makes an ambient and welcoming environment.

Creating fragrances began as a hobby, for local clients, hotels and private homes. Blending a unique scent is a journey that begins almost at the end. I know how I want the key notes or type of scent to be; perhaps a crisp, fresh citrus, rich spice or clean and aromatic. Then tweaking and testing until the scent works, both alone and within the collection, until finally it can join the family. The Coastal Living Collection is now joined by the Country Home Collection along with Seasonal Limited Editions. I also love collaborating with local artists and makers, such as Amy Cooper Ceramics, sculptor Melanie Legge, and St Mawes Gin with Mr Scorse Deli. Bespoke blending for hotels and private clients and special events remains a joy and has led to the creation of the new personalised Wedding Candle Collection.

I hand blend and pour every product from my home in St Mawes and look forward to introducing new scents and expanding the product range, and please do get in touch if I can help create a bespoke scent for you.

The Inspiration

St Mawes is a beautiful village and year round sailing resort on the south Cornish coast, famed for some of the best day sailing waters in the country. There is a small working harbour with local fishing, three beaches and exceptionally pretty waterfront. With boutique hotels, restaurants, shops and galleries the villagers are well looked after. The stunning preserved St Mawes Castle sits on the entrance to the village and on the other side is the beautiful National Trust land and St Anthony’s Lighthouse, the inspiration for our own Lighthouse fragrance, sits at the tip of the headland.

St Mawes lies on a stretch of the south Cornish coast known as the Cornish Riviera. The term was first coined by vintage GWR advertising promoting train journeys to Cornwall as the area was little different from the Italian Riviera and the village has a distinct Mediterranean feel. The relaxed mood is most keenly felt on the harbour front, gazing at the yachts gently bobbing on the tranquil waters, and enjoying the blessed feeling of leaving the rest of the world behind.

The wider Roseland Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its stunning Heritage Coastline, sheltered coves, harbour villages and glorious countryside. The area, the lifestyle and community provide endless inspiration for the scent room.

“Gorgeous high quality diffuser. Definitely up there with the most luxurious ones. I recently bought a Lighthouse one for myself and it was so lovely that I bought another as a gift for a friend. The friend loved it so much that they bought another as a gift for another friend. Would most definitely recommend.”

“Very happy with this purchase, delightful fragrance, obviously a good quality. The smell of roses is the most obvious note, but also there is a very refreshing almost citrus hint too. I’m using it in my bedroom and it feels really comforting and appropriate. Great customer service too.”

“Gorgeous scented diffuser, I purchased this for a friend who loved it! Every time I go to her house I can smell it straight away. Incredible long lasting and great scent throw. Love the style of the diffuser too, very minimalist and sleek, would go well in all homes. Comes packaged nicely and delivery was prompt, even over the Christmas period. Will be back again.”
